Get ready to ignite your excitement, because Traverse City, MI is about to explode with the country’s third International Fireworks Championship at Turtle Creek Stadium (333 Stadium Dr, Traverse City, MI 49685) on September 5 & 6, 2025.
Firmly on the map for its famous National Cherry Festival in July, TC extends its summer season with this huge event.
Each entry will be formally judged, but the public has the final say on who wins the fan choice trophy, voting by QR code from the stands.
“This event features some of the top pyrotechnic teams in the world,” said Traverse City Tourism President, Trevor Tkach (Tah-koch).
Truly, this mesmerizing pyrotechnic competition is a blast for the whole family.
Entertainment leading up to main event sets the stage for the night. Once it’s dark, the competition begins.
“This promises a fireworks event like no other,” said Mickey Graham, Director of Events at Traverse City Tourism. “There are bright colors, bold designs and fun concepts. I recently watched a competition in Spain and the show was the pride of the entire community.”
Traverse City is believed to be the first host of an event of this kind in the US, building on similar fireworks competitions that are wildly popular in places like Europe, the UK, Canada, and Mexico.
Only a handful of Fireworks Competitions are held in the US, with the closest being staged in Missouri.
“The Traverse City International Fireworks Competition provides an even playing field as all competitors are working to the same criteria and even from the same pool of fireworks,” said Robert Foti, from 2024’s Australian team.
“This allows us to experiment with design and soundtrack ideas. We can’t wait to see what everyone will do.”
The show is happening on both Friday and Saturday nights. Tickets will be sold for single-day or two-day packages. 1,000 seats will be designated as two-night show ticket packages.
Prices per night are $50 for box seats, $78 for field seats, tables for four are $500 and suites range from $1,000 – $2,500.
Small suites come with 12 tickets and are $1,300 per night. (Small suite numbers 212 – 216, along the first base side, are discounted to $1,100 due to limited lines of visibility during the show.)

Tickets for both nights of the show go on sale in mid-May at www.TraverseCity.com and sell out quickly.
All ticket sales are processed online, with the exception of ADA tickets; ADA tickets can be purchased by calling 231-947-1120.
