Goats Specialty Cheeses

Idyll Farms is a 500-acre goat-only dairy goat farm and creamery on the Leelanau Peninsula that produces internationally award-winning farmstead goat cheeses from Certified Humane Alpine goats.

The farm isn’t open for walk-ins, but seasonal guided tours in summer are worth planning around (be sure to sign up to save your spot) and you can grab their cheese from a vending machine in Northport year-round.

The Goat Cheese Vending Machine

Get some at possibly the only goat cheese vending machine in the US, open 24/7 for all your cheese needs.

They accept credit cards and Apple Pay.

It’s located on the side porch of the old Pier Group building in Northport corner of 3rd and Rose (next to visitors center and Haserot Park and the Marina).

Otherwise, if you can’t make it to Northport, their cheese is available in a lot of stores and restaurants in Traverse City, like Tom’s Markets and Oleson’s Food Stores. A full list of retailers is listed on their website, where you can also buy their goat cheese online.

Visitor Experiences

Idyll Farms typically runs two main visitor experiences: summer farm tours and spring bottle-feeding sessions with baby goats. Other events may be added and announced on their website and social media.

Summer Farm Tours have been offered every year since at least 2023, typically on 3-4 dates in July and August.

Tours are guided walking experiences outside the creamery, goat barns, milking parlor, and pastures overlooking Lake Michigan

you’ll learn how the cheese is made, meet the petting herd, sample cheeses, and have a chance to buy your favorites.
Tour dates and tickets typically go on sale in late May or early June – watch their website for release. They sell out – don’t wait.

Idyll Kids Bottle Feeding Sessions

These are 20–30 minute play dates where your group gets one-on-one time bottle feeding baby goats and hanging out in their play yard. In 2026, they held six dates across March and April. Tickets are extremely limited and go on sale in late February to mid-March.

All events require closed-toe, farm-appropriate shoes and a signed waiver. Cash preferred for on-farm cheese purchases. Tickets for everything go through MyNorth Tickets.
