Hit the Road: 12 of the Prettiest Flower Fields in Michigan
There’s something about driving past a field of flowers in the summertime that short-circuits your brain in the best way. One second you’re cruising along, the next you’re shrieking “PULL OVER” while fumbling for your phone and making big plans to live in a tulip field forever.
We get it. And we made this list for that exact moment. (And yeah, we know there are more great flower fields out there, but we had to start somewhere. If you have spots for us to consider, please leave them in the comments.)
These are the bloom spots worth planning your summer around—whether you’re chasing peonies, lavender, sunflowers, or a mason jar full of zinnias. We organized them by when they bloom, so you can hit the road and let the flowers lead the way.
Let’s start at the top of the bloom calendar. You ready? Let’s go!

Michigan Summer Flower Spots (Organized by Bloom Time)
Tulip Fields at Tulip Time in Holland
When: Late April – Early May
Where: Holland, MI
This one kicks off flower season in Michigan. Holland’s Tulip Time Festival (May 2–11, 2025) turns the town into a tulip wonderland, with millions of blooms and just as many photo ops. Start at Window on the Waterfront Park to wander through 94,000 tulips along the river. Don’t miss Centennial Park and its Dutch fountain surrounded by 43,000 more.
And if you’re driving, the Tulip Lanes loop through neighborhoods where tulips line the streets like a parade. End at Veldheer Tulip Farm for tulip flower fields that go on for miles.

Cherry Tree Blossoms at Meijer Gardens
When: Late April – Early May
Where: Grand Rapids, MI
Early each May, head to the Japanese Garden at Frederik Meijer Gardens to a tucked-away grove of cherry tree blooms in soft pink and white.
If you time it right, you’ll catch a dreamy walkway of blossoms with benches, a waterfall, and enough peace and quiet to make your day.

Tulips, Lavender & Sunflower Fields at DeBuck’s Family Farm
When: Late April – August
Where: Metro Detroit
DeBuck’s gives you reasons to visit all summer long with not just one, but three flower festivals.
Kick off spring with their colorful Tulip Festival, come back mid-summer to catch the gorgeous Lavender Festival, and wrap up the season wandering their sunny Sunflower fields.
Along with the blooms, the farm adds in wagon rides, giant slides, and playful attractions so it’s just as fun for kids as it is for your camera roll.

Trillium & Bluebells at Aman Park
When: Late April – Early May
Where: Grand Rapids, MI
This one’s more secret trail than garden, but if you hit it at the right time, Aman Park is full-on wildflower magic. Trillium and bluebells take over the forest floor and trails (especially the red and blue loops), making it feel like walking through a fairytale.
Best bloom is usually right around Mother’s Day.

Secret Garden at the Grand Hotel
When: Late May – Early June for Tulips, followed by Summer Annuals
Where: Mackinac Island
Yes, it’s actually called the Secret Garden! True to form, there are no signs showing you the way. No map location. But once you find it tucked behind a hedge on the Grand Hotel’s grounds, you’ll see why people talk about this one.
Tulips bloom first, then a summer explosion of color takes over. This flower field gives you tingles and feels like stepping into a storybook.

Peonies at the W.E. Upjohn Peony Garden
When: Late May – Early June
Where: Nichols Arboretum, Ann Arbor
Over 800 peony plants. More than 10,000 blooms. Fluffy, fragrant, and completely showy. This garden at Nichols Arboretum is one of the oldest and largest heirloom peony collections in North America, and it usually hits full bloom right around Memorial Day.
Download one of their themed walking guides if you want to sniff your way through the this flower field in Michigan, or find the blooms named after influential women.

Romeo Lavender Farm
When: Late June – Early August
Where: Romeo, MI
Romeo Lavender Farm is a triple-threat: lavender, wildflowers, and sunflowers all in one spot. Lavender typically hits peak bloom from late June – early August, but if you’re coming for the photo ops, aim for earlier in the season—before the u-pick crowds do their thing. You’ll also find sunflowers and wildflowers available for u-pick and a chance to have a dinner date in the lavender field!
If Romeo isn’t in your area and you want to find other lavender fields near you, take a look at this big list.

Secret Garden on Old Mission Peninsula

Basically, this place is an outdoor love letter to flower lovers.

Where: Richland, MI
Four acres. Two dozen types of sunflowers. One golden sea of happiness. Gull Meadow Farms opens its sunflower fields in early August, and it’s one of those places that’ll have you laying in the grass or posing in the middle of it all. There’s a photo trail, and you can pick your own stems to take home.

Dahlia Hill
When: July – Mid-October
Where: Midland, MI
This terraced hillside is a riot of color all summer long. With 3,000+ dahlias in over 340 varieties, it’s basically a sculpture garden made of flowers.
Bonus: artful sculptures are scattered throughout the terraces, too, thanks to artist-founder Charles Breed. Free to visit, and totally worth it.
